I am trying to track the will of a William Brunt who may have fathered Maria Litherland in 1828. In this will there may have been money left in chancery for the Litherland family. Maria was born illegitimate in b. 6 Mar 1828, daughter of Elizabeth Litherland (servant) or her family Samuel (blacksmith) and Mary Litherland of Appleby Magna. Elizabeth died when Maria was 3.
Maria came to New Zealand with her aunt Lydia and Thomas Wilson in 1850 and was one of the earliest settlers in the Raglan region. William Brunt's name is recorded on the book of Maria's wedding certificate as her father and I am hoping to find a lead for our genealogy research.
Thank you Nicki

The Appleby Parish Registers do record the baptism of Maria on March 9th 1828, illegitimate daughter of Elizabeth Litherland, servant. But there are no references to the Brunt family anywhere in the registers. Possibly Elizabeth was in service outside Appleby, but returned home for the birth/baptism of her child.
