Hi
My GG Grandfather was born in Barlestone and ran a butchers in Appleby Magna. He had 3 sons: Walter b1865, William b1868 and Thomas Charles b1870. In the 1901 census William ran the Black Horse Inn with his wife Annie. I know what happened to Thomas but have little information about Walter or the family in general. I would be grateful for any information anyone has regarding this family group.
Thanks Richard

My husbands cousin is the grandaughter of William Starbuck and her mother was born at the Black Horse Inn Appleby. Her mother was Winifred Ailsa Starbuck daughter of William and Annie. As a child she remembers her Uncle Tom coming to stay at their farmhouse in Austrey ,he had previously emigrated to Canada. She says he wore a cowboy hat and was very "swashbuckling" ! Are you descended from Tom's family? According to her she says Walter died many years ago .Can you contact me then I can pas any info to her.

Les & his wife Vi were related or were very good friends of my grandparents Harry & Lilian Marbrow. We used to visit them often when we were children & I remember Uncle Les used to kill & butcher the pigs for my Dad at our farm.

Les and Vi Starbuck lived in Rock House on Mawby's Lane. Vi taught at Appleby School and Les had various butchery connections including one latterly with Bill Taylor in the 1970s.

Hi everyone
Thanks so much for your sharing your memories!!
Doris: Yes I am related as William was my GG Grandfather Charles Starbucks' son, born in 1868. Im a little confused about Tom as the Tom from Appleby didn't goto Canada to live and was my G Grandfather. There was another Tom from Barlestone and the Appleby Starbucks are descended from his family.
My Aunt used to Visit Vi in Appleby before she passed away? Is the old butchers still there (as in not demolished?) Is Rock House still there?
Thanks Richard
