I'm researching my branch of the Royden family, originally from the Wirral; in particular George Royden, who seems to have been a farmer in Appleby Magna around 1920. Does anybody recognise the name?
My great-aunt's account says that George Royden (b. 1867 d. 1947), her uncle, moved to Appleby Magna around 1917-8 and took up farming at 'The Manor House'. He would have been a widower by this time. His children were Charles Thomas Royden, Molly Royden and Frank Royden. Molly and Frank would have been in their teens when their father moved. Molly married her cousin, Clifford Griffiths, a rather dashing test pilot, in 1920.
It seems that Clifford, the son of a mason/steeplejack, mended the roof of 'The Manor House' around 1920, and there is a photo of my great aunt Ivy walking on the roof!
I've tried to identify the house from photos available on the internet, but there doesn't seem to be a clear match. I haven't been able to attach the photo here, but if anyone thinks they can help, I can send it via email: Elspeth_broady@msn.com
Many thanks

OK - thanks to Richard Dunmore's 1841 census analysis I think I have found Manor House. Unfortunately not accessible to Google Street View.
If you go out of Appleby on the Measham Road you come to the T junction. Turning right towards Measham there is a farm track almost immediately on your left.
Manor House Farm is up that track (seems not to be as glorious as in its prime).
