In 1934 a William Read of Leicester (or possibly A. William Read) undertook a transcription of the Baptism, Marriage and Burial
records at Appleby church. These transcribed records have now been digitised and are published here in a searchable format.

The original transcripts were in two volumes.
Volume 1 is very free format, whilst volume 2 reflects the changing legislation
requiring different records to be kept in separate registers.

Entry dates should always be carefully checked - particularly in Volume 2 where records are more sectionalised.
The original registers are held at the Leicestershire Record Office, and there is a microfiche copy at Coalville library.

A copy of the typed 1934 transcript is held by the Parochial Church Council in Appleby.
There are almost no entries in the registers for the period 1725 – 1731.
The Bishop's Transcripts for this period has been located and digitised separately,
and entered into this transcription at more or less the correct chronological point.
Bishop's Transcripts, the move from the Julian to Gregorian calendar (with its 11 "lost" days)
and the changing of New Year's Day from March 25th (Lady Day) to January 1st are explained
in the transcription's introductory pages which includes a Table of Contents on Page 4.
Please note - the spelling of some family names has varied over the years, and is quite often dependant
on who completed the registers, searching partial names is often recommended.
