Welcome to The Appleby Information Portal.
This site is intended to be an information platform for the residents of Appleby Magna and Appleby Parva (in North West Leicestershire).
Nothing stunningly new or different, evolution not revolution, just a one stop shop for information etc., but locally managed and locally maintained. The "current" management is based in Appleby Magna and everyone (local or not) is free to post as appropriate. These forums are moderated, but the content of any externally linked web sites is the responsibility of the owners' of those sites, we can only realistically control the content of this site. Some very simple rules regarding posting can be found at the bottom of this introduction.
Hopefully you will make regular use of the site and even become a contributor. Every little helps.
To review a particular topic, click on the "board" name from the first (home) screen.
To read a particular "thread", click on the subject line, once you are in the forum.
To reply to a post, select "Reply", which appears at both the top and bottom on each post.
To create a new topic, select "Create Thread", which appears near the top right hand corner of the list of threads pages with each "board".
Users.............................
There are two categories of user on these boards.
(1). Guest.
Everyone is treated as a guest until you decide to register and subsequently logon with your chosen user name and password.
A guest may read and create posts on these boards, you can sign entries with your name or you can remain anonymous, entirely your choice.
You cannot delete or modify posts if they were created as a guest.
Guests cannot send personal messages to other users.
(2). Registered User.
It only takes a couple of minutes to register, very basic information only is required. As a security check you will be asked for your date of birth and gender. Once registered you can edit your profile so that this information is not displayed (if it is something you are sensitive about), simply select "profile" from the bottom line of the banner heading, then "edit profile" (lots of things to tweak if you wish) - simples.
As a registered user you can delete or modify your own posts.
You can personalise your account information with things such as avatars, signatures and messages (see above for editing profiles).
You can send and receive personal messages from other registered users without revealing your email address.
Board moderators can forward information and requests directly to you.
Registered users can set their account so that they receive emails to notify them of Private Messages or responses to their posts etc.. No need to keep checking back on the boards.
However you choose to post, please avoid using easily identifiable email addresses or other personal contact information - you never know who is reading these boards.
You are more or less free to post whatever you want on whatever subject you choose (although a local connection is preferable), the board management reserves the right to edit and/or delete any material deemed to be inappropriate.
Please remember that these boards (as a general rule) are free and open, readers can be of any age, the phrases "family friendly" and "legal, decent and honest" should be considered with respect to your posts.
Two basic rules :-
(1). Moderator's decisions are final.
(2). If you disagree with a moderator's decision, please refer to rule (1).
By posting on these forums you are agreeing to abide by the board's rules (specifically listed or implied).
Please respect other people's trademarks and copyright where applicable.
Many thanks in advance - The Management.
