My Mum and I were reminiscing about Appleby and trying to remember who was in residence at the various Appleby hostelries. Can you help fill in the gaps?
Black Horse
Ball Jack Jones Ronnie Jones Dave Bithell Laurence & Sharon Freeman
Crown Briggs Stevensons Ray Harkell
Moore Arms Bill Rice
Also who helped out. I remember Arthur Tysoe and Margaret Millar at the Moore Arms.

I don’t know how far back you want to go with yours and your mum’s memories, I can go back to the 1950’s, you may not be able to recall some of this but your mum should.
The Queen Adelaide
Stevensons
The Crown
Dickey Briggs
One of Stevensons daughter's from the Adelaide married, she and her husband kept the Crown so it wouldn’t go under the name Stevenson
The Black Horse
Jack Jones
The Moore Arms
? ?
As for people that helped out I don’t know for I don’t drink, all that I can tell you is Iris Jones, Jacks daughter, did at The Black Horse. I know this as I used to go to the backdoor and get some things for mum and dad as a lad

I think that the Stevensons moved over to the Crown when the Queen Adelaide closed.
Iris Jones married Steve Burton and lived at 3 Top Street (on the corner of Snarestone Lane.
There were a number of alterations made to the Black Horse over the years - I remember it as it was originally as we used to go over for Vimto & Crisps. In those days there was 3d on the bottle but Jack never used to bother - however Florrie was meticulous in her application of the charge even to the extent of knowing that our previous purchase had been through Jack where she would not refund the surcharge!
Mum doesn't think that Mr Briggs was related to the Stevensons - he had the Crown before the Stevensons moved in - Marjorie Stevenson married Ray Harkell and the other daughter Sally married John Hicks.
Jack and Harry Saddington kept the Crown at one time, and a Mr Ball the Black Horse. He was related to the Butcher at Measham. A Miss Langton worked at the Black Horse and when Mr Ball retired she moved to the Crown.

I recall that the Pinchbecks ran the Moore Arms prior to John Goss (current landlord). Eileen Pinchbeck then moved to the Ice House in the village.
