Hi, i am trying to trace the marriage between William Jordan and Jane litherland. William was born in 1816 i am not sure where, it may have been oakthorpe or Appleby Magna he was a builder. Jane was born in 1817 and came from Measham. According to the 1841 census she was still single but in the 1851 single she is shown as being married to William. The problem is i can't find a record of their marriage, can ayone help me please.

Ray - sorry - not a positive response.
I found William and Jane in the 1851 census, living in the St Peter's area of Derby. William's place of birth is shown as Oakthorpe. Jane's as Measham. Their first son Charles Litherland Jordan is also shown as being born in Oakthorpe.
I found them again in the 1861 census, now living in Burton - but in Ancestry.co.uk they are listed under the name Jerdon. The places of birth were as expected Oakthorpe/Measham/Oakthorpe, so at least they were being consistant. In this census they now have another son, Raymond aged 8, born in Derby.
I also found someone on Ancestry that had also tracked this portion of the Jordan/Litherland families - but unfortunately they also didn't have a marriage date for William and Jane.
I also tried the IGI Database, again no marriage recorded for William and Jane. Richard pointed out in an earlier thread that marriages were normally held in the bride's parish, so if they are anywhere they would most likely be in the Measham Parish Registers.
Of course, there is always the possibility that if there is no trace of any wedding - maybe there wasn't one.
