Chris, do you know anything about this house? It appears to be about the same age as the Appleby Moat House. I wonder who lives there ?

Albert -
Could you give me a clue where this house is as I can't find any reference to it in the Austrey Village website, or in the village's wikipedia entry.
I've sent an email to the Austrey Village web site asking the question, but obviously don't know how often they check for emails etc..

Thanks for that, Chris. I drove past it this morning on our way to breakfast at Newton garden centre. Yummy yum yum. It's actually called Bishop's Farm. It's a great timber framed house set back from the road. Real dark and creepy.
As you drive down to Astrey lane, when to get to the first junction, drive straight on down Warton Lane. It's about 1/4 mile along on the left just before the right turn to Newton Regis.
It's well worth a look. Much better than Appleby Moat House, IMHO.

Just found it on Street View - looks a bit decrepit.
I'll let you know what Austrey Village Web site comes back with.

Albert -
A search on Bishop's Farm was a little more successful than a search on Bishop's House - but not a lot.
There is a date of 1521 on the building, according to the village description.
And it was last sold, freehold, in November 1996 for £125,000 (according to the Land Registry).
But apart from that ...................................
p.s. Don't know if you have noticed, but according to RightMove the Moat House is "under offer".

Thanks Chris for that. It's a grand house. Spooky too.
Didn't know about the Moat House. Very difficult to sell because of that entrance where it is and that footpath crossing the land. Also, if my memory serves me, I think that English Heritage may require owners to have public tours of the house every so often ??
Speed down to 5.6 this morning. When they all get back to work tomorrow I might get an increase. :-)

My mother in law was born in Bishops Farm in 1904 and brought up there. It was very original but has been renovated. It was a working farm until the 1960’s .It is a wonderful old house and much loved by the Drake family. Doris Macdougall

Hi -
Many thanks for your interesting post. Unfortunately the thread is now over 3 years old and I'm not sure that Albert checks for replies these days.
But thanks again.
