I was wondering exactly where the source of Appleby's stream is, that eventually discharges into the River Mease.
Somewhere near Norton Juxta Twycross maybe?

There isn't just one source, Albert. Many streams and 'field drains' funnel down into the centre of the village from the surrounding hills. See the map in my article: Applebys History In Focus 6. There are two main feeds which unite behind Wren Close - one comes, indeed, from the Norton side of the parish past the chapel; the other from Hoppage spinney on the hills near Austrey Lane. The latter flows in a culvert under the site of the old Appleby Hall, emerging from the tunnel at the School end of Church Street then flowing alongside Church Street to Wren Close. Below the village the stream has a name - it's the Meadow Brook which flows across the fields of Barns Heath farm to join the Mease at the Measham boundary. End of story! Richard

With the gradual removal of hedges and ditches to enlarge the fields over the years several sources feeding Appleby Brook have disappeared.
