Hi -
Thanks for posting on the Appleby site. Unfortunately this thread has not been updated for over 2 years - fingers crossed that someone with Litherland family connections picks up on your post.

Still looking for further information on Samuel and Mary Litherland and their children. Elizabeth b. 1807 d. 1831. She had an illegitimate daughter Maria b. 1828. Ann b. 1809 d. 1888 and married John Saddington. Mary b. 1810 - married Thomas Wilson 1840 - d. 1841-1845 Jane b. 1812 - married H.A. Port d. 1846 Lydia b. 1814 d. 1888 married Thomas Wilson 1845 Harriot b. 1815 d. 1836 Maria b. 1818 d. 1821 Thomas Wilson was married firstly to Mary Litherland 31 Aug 1840. In the 1841 census Mary Wilson is living with Samuel and Mary Litherland but there is no record of her daughter Mary Elizabeth Wilson who was born 15 May 1841. She does not appear in the census with her father either. Can anyone tell me if Mary Wilson is buried in Appleby and is there any record of her death and what cause was. Thanks Nicki

Hi Debbie - welcome to the Appleby Portal.
I have just done a quick scan of the Parish Registers and there is one record that might fit.
A Mary Wilson was buried on January 21st 1842. She is listed as being aged 32 and from Burton on Trent. Causes of deaths are not listed in the Registers.
The age and location do fit with the limited information that is in the 1841 census.
There is also a baptism record dated 21st November 1841 for a Mary Elizabeth Wilson, daughter of Thomas and Mary Wilson. Thomas is listed as a shoemaker from Burton.
A mothers' death shortly after a birth, I guess not too uncommon in those days.
