BT have just installed a new fibre enabled cabinet at the junction of Top Street and Botts Lane.
The primary intent is to provide fast fibre connection to the new estate at the back of Top Street.
Having asked the question regarding the possibility of migration between the old and new cabinets to get better fibre speeds, this is the response I got from Super Fast Leicestershire.
As part of the next stage of our programme we will be moving lines between cabinets where this provides a step change in available speed. Where lines are connected to a live fibre cabinet but are located too far from the cabinet to notice an appreciable uplift in speed, they may be moved to a new fibre cabinet which is located closer to their property.
This solution is known as ‘live to live’ and would not be used to increase speeds for those already able to access superfast broadband (24Mbps). Further, there will be limited circumstances in which this will be feasible. For example, if the new cabinet is to serve a large number of properties, it would not have capacity to take extra lines from neighbouring cabinets.
Residents are unable to elect to be moved between cabinets as BT will not rearrange lines on request.
