My father Cyril Sisson was born in Apple by in 1910 I am trying to trace his family. His father was John W Sisson and mother Sarah Sisson (nee Dent). They had 3 plus children - Cyril (born 1910, Gladys and Percy plus my Grandmother had maybe 1 or 2 other children out of wedlock after my grandfather died. My Grandfather was an Auctioneer in Appleby and died approx 1914. My father attended the old Appleby Grammar school and won pole jumping for the school. I know he worked as a butchers apprentice in Appleby at sometime but left Appleby to go to London where he stayed. His mother Sarah was related to Edna Dent who lived in the Almhouses in Appleby I used to visit her many years ago I know she moved to the Almshouses many years ago but I think she must have died about 5 years ago as I have lost contact. she never returned my mail. I visited Appleby a couple of months ago and I think my dad worked or knew the butcher called Earnshaw - obviously the Earnshaw he would have known has since died I tried to visit the Almshouses during this time but there was no-one at the contact No 4. I know many of my relatives are buried in Temple Sowerby but as I live in Lincolnshire I find it difficult to find out any information. Maybe someone can help? Regards and thanks for any information Enid Ellis (nee Sisson)

Hi Enid. John william sisson was my great great grandfather. My great grandmother was linda sisson who married my great grandfather in Jersey. I have quite a bit of information on the family. I live in Pontefract West Yorkshire and would be happy to amswer any questions.

Matt -
Enid's post is nearly 7 years old, so may no longer be being checked for responses.
I think Enid's family are from Appleby in Cumbria rather than Appleby Magna in Leicestershire/Derbyshire (where this Discussion Board and Web Site are based).
But thanks for offering to help.
