Just had a map dropped through my letterbox about house building past and new proposals. In it was stated, and I quote, "The countryside to the west and north of Appleby magna is particularly important (to) protecting the village's rural character." It goes on to say the rural aspect from the approach roads should be retained.
By implication Appleby's countryside to the east and west is not so important. Two of the approach roads to Appleby are in the e/w area and are equally important in maintaining the rural aspect in my view.
In fact, the approach along Top St past the Grammar School is one of the best in my opinion. Certainly better than Bowley's Lane/ Measham Road approaches.
In recent years the e/w area has had more then its fair share of new housing (Garton Close and Didcott Way) so it can be argued that the w/n area should take its share, if any new development is to take place.
I am not sure where the author of that w/n statement lives but it was certainly printed in the that area !
