My 4 x Great Grandfather Hugh Mould married Ann Geary on the18 Oct 1796 at Appleby Magna Parish Church. Can any one help as to when they died and are they buried at the same church? Did Ann Geary also come from Appleby?
Many thanks Janet Woodier

Janet - There are two or three mentions of the Geary family in the Parish marriage records from round about 1790-1800. Those records seem to indicate that they are a local family, but there are no baptism records that I can see - so a family that moved to Appleby some time in the 20 years or so before the 1790's ? The banns for the marriage of Hugh and Ann were read in Appleby church on October 2nd, 9th and 16th 1796, but no village address is given for either, which it would have been if they were not residents of Appleby. One problem is that the Mould name is very common in Appleby around that time so identifying who is who is a little difficult. The nearest I have come to a reasonable match on a burial record is for Ann. Ann Mould, wife of Hugh, buried Appleby April 27th 1824 aged 48, but her "abode" is listed as Tamworth, so maybe the family had moved by that date. There are a couple of burial entries for Hugh Mould(s), but the ages look wrong on both. If you want to have a hunt through the full Parish Registers (if you haven't already) a full listing of all the online registers can be found by clicking on this link - The Appleby Parish Registers.Note - The full file is nearly 7 meg - so save a copy once you have downloaded it if you have a slow internet connection. Check page 4 for a table of contents as the sequencing of the Registers changes over the years. The registers are in searchable pdf format, so you will need Adobe Reader, or similar. Chris
