I am researching my ancestor John Pointon, christened in Appleby in 1788, married to Ann Whitworth. I know Johns father was a John and his wife was Mary, born1761, died Appleby 1824. Cant find John in the registers, must have been born about 1760. If he was from another parish, are there any neighbouring parishes online to search. Also cant find their wedding in Appleby register, although all their children were born there. Any ideas?

Lisat -
Richard Dunmore has pointed out on another thread that marriages normally took place in the bride's parish. So it is not surprising that John and Mary's marriage is not recorded in the Appleby Registers. Unfortunately I am not aware of any other local parish with their full church registers online.
I've had a quick look on IGI but can't find anything for a John Pointon, born around 1760, married around 1808.

Re Pointon lisat I am also searching the Pointon`s from Appleby Magna. Your ancestor John was the elder brother to my ancestor Thomas born 1795. I am also having problems finding John`s baptism and marriage but I have checked the parish records at Wigston Magna and I am sure they were not in Appleby parish between 1754 and 1784. There are no Pointon`s there between these times.
