I've been through the security check, typed out the hidden code
and had my finger prints taken up at Mc Donald's. Also had my DNA taken at the Post Office.
My luggage has been Xrayed at the Moat House and my car registration checked out at the pub!

So, is any one here for a chat? Up until now everyone only seems to be interested in finding out about their lost family names etc etc.
Then they buzz off never to be heard of again.

So after all my security checks is any one prepared to take a few minutes and talk about something not connected with them?

Bet you a quid I'm wasting my time....yet again.
Albert.

Hi Albert

The board was set up in response to questions from people about their family history, so it's not surprising that's what all the discussion is about. Our little group of volunteers running the web site weren't in a position to research the answers to all the questions we were getting so we thought we should set up a forum where others could help. It was never envisaged as a general village discussion board, although there's nothing to stop people using it that way if they wish. However, I think for it to become a general forum, it would have to be publicised as such in the village.

I did use it in my courses at Appleby Online when I was teaching people how to register and use discussion boards, but that's no longer happening, sadly.

Man had always assumed he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much - the wheel, New York, wars and so on - whilst all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time. But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man - for precisely the same reasons. ~Douglas Adams

I well I did try. But really this security check is not on any other forum I am on. It's such a bother messing around with

GS85TKBSWLN5"&$GF or GhY|D8DMOYw$b$

that I type in the wrong letter and have to start again. ;D

"Tieped in the wqrong kee"

Anyway the smilies are quite nice so I will end my stay on this empty discussion forum with
:) ;) ??? :-[ :-/ :'( and continue my travels around the net elsewhere.
Merry Xmas, M.
'bye
Albert.

Well apart from anything else, you are posting on the wrong board. Your entries are appearing on the hints, tips and rules section of the forum.
As for having to fill in the security key. I guess you have never tried administrating a public message board and had to spend your time clearing up the inevitable spam that gets posted.
Several other villages in our area have had to close their discussion boards because of spam, adverts for pornographic web sites and Japanese ring tone suppliers.
The security key is a small price to pay to keep the boards clean and spam free.

p.s.

Albert - you would not need to enter the security key if you were logged on using your registered user name - animation (?).

As mentioned in my earlier email, that random digit security key is to prevent malicious users posting spam etc.. When someone logs on as a guest there is no way of knowing their intent. Spam bots do not care where they post their unwanted material, but are usually not capable of reading and interpreting a security code.

Regular, registered users bypass the extra security requirement when they are correctly logged on.

O dear my six hours was up so I became unlogged......my other forums just have the option to "remember my name"
Ebay does this for 1 day, others for many days.
So that's sorted.
I shall now post the biggest Appleby puzzle on the correct place.

There is no longer a general discussion board then where I can be
humorous/helpful/rude/chucked off then?
Albert.

Perhaps we need another 'general discussion' board, and rename the main one 'history'? Or 'family and other history'? Any other suggestions?

But then you and I would be the lone ones there. In the last attempt at a 'genera'l no one was interested.
People selfishly just wish to find out about their own families and then buzz off without any further contributions.

Joan has sometimes answered queries about others families and never even gets a thanks!! Never again.

As one of my own sayings goes.....
"People are like Black Holes. Self centred!"

Albert....trying to be on the periphery!

You didn't consider selecting the "forever" (or any other) option then.

No Chris. I'm not going to live forever anyway. :)
Imagine having to be on this forum for ever and ever (Amen!) ;)
