On the Appleby web site there are some pictures of the parade and games celebrating the Queen's jubilee in 1977, taken by Duncan. Here's a link to them

Were you there? Do you recognise anyone?

If you know anyone in the pictures, let us know on this thread.

Man had always assumed he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much - the wheel, New York, wars and so on - whilst all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time. But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man - for precisely the same reasons. ~Douglas Adams

"I was there!" as Max Boyce would say. The procession was lead by the uniformed organisations - Scouts, Guides, Cubs and Brownies. These groups were the driving force behind the organisation of the day including the procession. The band was from Donisthorpe Scouts and some young leaders recognisable in the photos include John Addenbrooke ('Skip', pictures 7 & 10) and Gill Bird (No.6). Also helping the tug-of-war from the side, in his enthusiastic way, is Sam Spare (No.1). The lady in the blue dress, sporting a large red ear-ring and carrying a brolly (No. 6), is lovely young Dave Birch! Note all the dedicated followers of fashion 70s style, with long hair and sideburns, and flared trousers. Richard
